One Month Old, a busy week

Time sure flies when you're a newborn. Kalea just turned one month old! So on her actual one month birthday, what did we do? See the Dr. of course! Chiaki is examining her, and she wasn't too excited about it...Here she is trying to show Chiaki some push-ups. Whew! Tiring...


We also tagged along with daddy to get his hair cut. Dad's been letting the 'fro go since Kalea's been born, so he decided to get a proper cut with a proper stylist at Studio DNA...here's Kalea chillin' outside, taking a break from the bright lights...

We also made our annual trip to West LA's obon festival. Here's Kalea admiring her beautiful Aunty Liz...she's thinking, "ok, I'll open my eyes for you Aunty..."

Kalea enjoys her carseat very much. She knocked out most of the festival, even when the taiko drums were booming. At least she looks cute in the pink Jinbei grandma got her!


Relaxed for the end of the week with family. Here she is contemplating life at the top of the mountain...er, dad's tummy.



Being held by grandma, of course, she loves to be held and grandma loves to hold her, so it all works out.

At last , pooped out a nap with Kookie. No, the dog is not normally allowed on the bed but he snuck up there when mom was asleep. Woke up to snoring and thought it was the baby...actually it was our BIG baby, so we thought this was classic! Even the dog is tired from lack of sleep but he loves our little Kalea so it's all worth it.

Mom and Dad were thoroughly entertained trying to get baby and doggie in a shot, but Kalea and Kookie don't seem too thrilled to pose for pictures. Actually, they look utterly bored. Well, at least Mom and Dad had fun!
Thanks to Sydney, via Dina and Erich for sending down a big box of "girl" clothes...Kalea finally has something pink!

One Week Old...and Kookie the Dirty Diaper Detective

Kalea is one week old, sleeping like an angel...


Amazingly, we discovered Kookie has an uncanny ability to inform us when Kalea's diaper is dirty. When she starts crying and Kookie starts whining, we realized he was telling us the diaper was wet! What a good boy!!!

On our 6th wedding anniversary, Nathan and I got a very special gift...our baby girl! Kalea Ai Oshidari was born on June 22, 2008 at 5:00pm (pretty much exactly the time of our wedding!!). She weighed in at 7lbs, 11 oz and was 20.5 inches long. It was fun not knowing whether it was going to be a boy or girl, but 9 long months of patiently waiting to meet her was well worth it.

Kalea means "light" or "bright" in Hawaiian, and Ai means "love" in Japanese. My mom's name is Aiko, so we thought it was a fitting name!
